The Importance Of Air Checking
Переглядів 1,9 тис.4 місяці тому
In this video, i am in the middle of rebuilding a 6L50. Before assembly i air check the clutch packs to make sure there are no leaks. The 1-2-3-4 clutch pack would not air check because of some problem with the stator rings so i ended up reusing the OE rings to get a good air check. If i would not have done this the transmission would not have worked and would have to pull back out again.
Ford 6F35, Bad Converter Or Stator
Переглядів 2,6 тис.4 місяці тому
In this video, this 18 Ford Fusion with a 6F35 has a noise in Reverse and Drive but goes away in Park and Neutral. Typically this would mean a bad converter but i felt it was the usual noise for a bad converter. I didn't pull out the converter til i was filming this video. Let's see if its converter or stator.

Great information, thanks for sharing!
Hi Gary, i have a 2011 chevy silverado and the p0717 code showed up. It shifts hard intermittently, sounds like a bad ground. Looking foe the ground wire, color and teeminal. I will email you my vin. Thanks
But you must be more clean after drill.(for table)
thank for little steel checkball locations
I just bought a 2016 gmc canyon diesel 146,000 miles has 6l50 and 3rd slips at first before locking in, the slip time veries no slip to all slip to 4th depending on throttle seem not to slip with heavy throttle. Will be towing in the future and don't like fixing things twice so I've been doing some research and most common issue seems to be the check balls. I don't want to remove the trans. I'm thinking a valve body service and a deep pan would fix it. Any other service suggestions while I'm in there. Seen people say adding separate trans cooler isn't necessary as they don't tend to overheat. I did see your other video with the o-ring plug kit😉
Well, Never seen a checkball cause a slip in 3d. How are reverse and 5th gear?
@GaryFerraro hard to say only had it last 600 miles
@@willyck948 I ask because the clutch that comes on in 3rd is also on in 5th and reverse
@GaryFerraro I'll try manual mode on the highway tomorrow and check. Would that mean full rebuild, checking shift pistons, or solinoid. No malfunction indecator lights on the dash. Still watching UA-cam videos here and there. As you can imagine the truck does run and drive but needs lot of service work done and don't want to tow till everything is up to 100%
@@willyck948 yes, if issues in reverse and 5th, clutch pack maybe bad
Great job !
so thats al you have to do to get the body out
Thats it, drop pan, filter and 6 bolts. Disconnect solenoid pack too
@@GaryFerraro is hard to line up the shifter thing ? and thank you
@@wolfmanking100 , if your changing the solenoid pack, do not touch the detent roller, it is very hard to see if it's lined up

Hi there. I have a zf6hp-28 on a Jaguar and im getting p2704 friction element e apply time. It only happens after half an hour of driving. We have already replaced the E Clutches and bushes and accumulators. Any suggestions please ? as im at a lost. Many thanks.
you have 1 of 2 problems, either your rear stator bushing is worn or solenoids mechanically clogged. Being the fact that it happens when warm, i would think the rear stator bushing is your problem
@@GaryFerraro Many thanks for your kind reply. 🙏
Hello Gary, Great video and.mich advice to head. Because of your video I stucked out the PTU on a new to us 08 Ford Escape hybrid with 43k on it. Was a dark pil but oil and not much sludge on the fill plug magnet. My question is if you would be so kind, I could.inly.suck out 7oz. I pimped it dry moved the hose around best I could. I refilled it woth Liqui Molly 75w140 and pumped in 10oz. (It starred to seep out the fill hole.) No drips leaks or even damp spots on the PTU. In your experience does the sludge take up less area as to why I pumped in?more then I took out? Or was it never filled o begin with? Your opinion would help settle my mind. I do plane on pump and fill every 10k with oul change to be safe. Thank you.
These do not hold a lot of fluid, very possible may not have been full or some may have escaped through the vent
Thank you so much for your reply and videos.
How in the world did it live 2 years??!! That's insane. Im a small shop in NC. I do appreciate how you state that if a customer doesn't want to build it your way, then maybe they should find someone else. I have standards to build them to last. I tell customers that I just want to see you again for a fluid filter service. Nothing else.
Hello Gary, I have 04 odyssey with 102k miles, I was driving south in highway doing 70 mph and suddenly D started flashing but no engine light. I stopped and turn off the engine, checked tranny oil level,no burnt smell. Started the van again and d flashing went away. I’m going to drive back home tomorrow, will odb2 tester come out with a code even if there’s no engine light ? And what’s should I look or check when I get back? Thanks
If the D light was flashing, there is a code present. Scan the car and see what you have
Have you ever heard of cleaning solenoids with mass airflow cleaner?
i have not but if it works, give it a shot.
Great video Gary. People always cheap out. Me included, in various areaa of life. Sometimes you get a bargain for your money, sometimes it's a fair price, and sometimes you pay a fortune for shoddy crap from a idiot. And everything in between. At least from you he knows you do your absolute best, using best available components, and do it your way to get no come back and long service life. Bottom line life in USA isn't easy for everyone and not everyone has piles of cash ready to spend for a+ top shelf work. Life can be a struggle given housing cost, extreme money printing inflation, etc. Good luck navigating the storm, I suspect you'll continue to have success and wish you the best. Cheers!
GRACIAS POR EDUCARNOS
how did it work for two years?
good question, wonder if was not working correctly but they just kept driving
I don't know if you are still active. 2014 dodge journey sxt awd. whining and gear slipping after oil heats up. Have to put in parks and shut off car for it to grab a gear but will slip again quick. I changed just the 1 solenoid and still had the issue. Used a voltage meter to check every solenoid and they all read fine. starts whining even in park. Do i need a new transmission?
The problem is the filter is clogging up, something in the trans or the converter is coming apart clogging the filter
That bearing now looks like a trust washer!
Great detailed video! I have a 97 ToyotaT100 4wd with the A340f transmission. I need to remove the extension housing because speed sensor broke off during removal and fell into housing. It looks like extension housing is sealed with red rtv from factory, is this preferred method for reinstallation? Thanks in advance!
Yes, If silicone came off then there is no gasket
Some shops are just shoddy. That's just the plain truth. Last time I had a shop do my e4od tranny here in Toronto, Canada, they put 4 clutches in a 3 clutch forward drum. They obviously didn't give a crap about checking clearances....lol. Within a year, the clutches were all burned...and luckily...before causing any real hard part damage, first gear was struggling to get me moving....and I stopped driving it. I then swore I would not go back to a tranny shop, and did an amazing job rebuilding it myself...with upgrades. It's not to say that there are not good tranny shops out there, as you seem to be very good. Gary...and I'm sure I would use you if I was in your vicinity. However, there are certainly bad ones......and that's what it took to get me to learn how to rebuild a tranny myself...lol..
When people cheap out, they always pay the price for it, in one way or another.
Hi Gary, I have a problem with a BMW 8hp75x gearbox. When the engine has just been started, it does not allow reverse gear to be engaged and records fault codes 420671 and 420651 referring to the parking brake. Can you help me with this problem?
Hi Gary great video mate👍🏻, I have a 2006 range rover sport v6 3.0 diesel and the reverse gear is not engaging, haven't got any codes apart from the usual lost commuinication with tcm which has been there for years now but the car was reversing. I bought a new sump pan the plastic one with filter replace the oil problem still not solved. I have just taken out the valve body open it and notice a black thick sludge on the plate in the middle, I have cleaned that plate since its not available my end. I have tested the solenoids and they all reading around 6.7 ohms apart from the single black one that is reading around 10.7 ohms. Would be grateful for further advice with this my project. Thank you and God bless for sharing your knowledge with us.
Ok, Question, Does the car move forward when in Neutral? Do you have a scan tool that shows live data?
I just love watching and listening to you, its like going back to school. 👍

I found the clunk spring broken and inner end of front shaft snapped off in my th350c. I'm guessing it was abused.

You the man! Oftentimes it is hard in life to find a good technician or a mechanic. And I believe that you and your shop are good people. It would be interesting to see a video of you putting one back together, but I bet it’s a little bit complex.
Not a bad trans to work on but if i have the time i will certainly film that. Thanks for watching
Think of all the money he would have saved to just have you rebuild it the first time!
my thoughts exactly
Thank you, sir
Nice video, please be careful not to blow air into you blood vessels when checking for leaks or other. 😮
I have a 2009 Aurion. This Winter im noticing a delay in drive when cold. It goes into drive fine. But shifting up from crawling pace it's indecisive in the first couple of gears
Thanks for posting.. gave me more confidence to take it apart and put it back together
Do you have a part number for the solenoid from transtar
My code is a p0776 pressure control solenoid B performance stuck/off it’s a 2010 Toyota sienna, is solenoid B L2? Or which solenoid is it?
This is a mechanical problem, most of the time the problem is not the solenoid but the computer blames the solenoid for the problem that the transmission has. Is the trans slipping? may be a bad clutch pack
I don’t think it’s slipping 1st and 2nd shift fine but 3rd jerks catches rolls for a moment then let’s go entirely, and same for 4th won’t go above 30mph
It goes into 3rd and 4th but it does a lot of jerking and hesitation I cleared the code but it came back, so yeah I guess it is slipping
@@GaryFerraro I just finished testing all the solenoids and they all work so maybe it is a clutch pack
It wasn’t shifting like it was slipping or even getting weak before hand, it’s possible for clutch packs to randomly go out?
Oh ! You just replace the cover ?
I so much understand but I need when you gonna couple it back most especially the reverse
Would this also make the uplander not want to shift into drive or 3rd but works in 1st and 2nd gear ? Someone told me the problem is this: Pressure Control (EPC) Solenoid is that possible or more or not at all. Thanks
Is reverse ok?
I heard every steel ball is different in size and weight? Is that correct?
No, Has steel check balls all the same and plastic which are the same,
Excellent video(s) Gary. I have a bent/broken pin. Is there anyway to replace the (I believe you called it) TCM? The whole plastic which includes the circular pin adapter?
you have a broken pin where the harness plugs in, so a broken pin on the TCM?
@@GaryFerraro yes. Pin #2 ~ low can
Hi Gary. Mine leaks. It makes little drops that then burn on catalytic converter plate. I hope it is a leak from bottom seal, that would be relatively easy. But if it's bushing as you showed, is there something I can do to make the transmission last a little longer without taking it out and/or taking it apart?
Not Really just keep it full of fluid

I have a 6L50 in an 08 CTS. I had a stripped output shaft spline and the transfer case stripped input shaft spline, both replaced. I'm getting codes P0700, P0716 and P1751. After driving a while or intermittently, I get a very hard shift, especially when in traffic at slower speeds. Have you experienced this issue before? What would you recommend?
hi Gary. Audi A4 2006 3.0TDI V6 quattro sedan By the looks of it all it has the same transmission as this one of yours, same bridge seal, connecter position etc. Had the tranny rebuild , but unfortunately didnt change the solonoid set with new ones. (money issue). hot or cold, issue is the same. when going downhill and thus not accelerating, just floating against the gears, the rev counter will fluctiate and the car has slight bumpy kind of ride. it will then light up all the gearlights and sit in one gear. after wich i stop, switch off the engine, restart again and off we go. untill it does it again. also when sudden hard accelleration is administered it would also jump to same lower gear(i think it is 3rd) with all the gear lights on. then same thing, stop and restart to get it going again. will a solonoid set change fix this?
and by the way, thanx for this vid. it is a struggle to get info on this tranny-engine-body combination of this audi, but it is a lovely car
